The Legend of the Girona Fly
In the 13th century, Girona was under siege by French forces. According to legend, when the invaders approached the Basilica of Sant Fèlix, swarms of flies emerged from the tomb of Saint Felix. The flies attacked the enemies, causing them to fall ill and retreat.
Since then, the fly has become a symbol of Girona’s resilience and divine protection, appearing in the city’s art and souvenirs.
That’s why I created a series inspired by the Girona fly.
